About Julie M. McCoy

A highly experienced trial attorney, Ms. McCoy has over 20 years experience in business litigation. Her skills were honed at the 100-attorney Newport Beach firm of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, where she was a partner for over 13 years. Her considerable trial experience includes almost 20 jury trials and numerous other court trials and binding arbitrations. She represents both plaintiffs and defendants, individuals and businesses. '
Ms. McCoy has earned the respect of her professional colleagues, who have elected her to numerous leadership positions within local bar organizations. Currently Secretary of the 7,000-member Orange County Bar Association, Ms. McCoy will succeed to the Presidency of that organization in 2006. Her past leadership positions within the Orange County Bar Association include serving as a Director in 2001-2002 and Chairing the prestigious Judiciary Committee, which evaluates candidates for the Orange County Consolidated Courts and makes recommendations as to their fitness to the Governor. She is also a Director of the Orange County Bar Association Charitable Fund, the charitable giving arm of the bar association.
Outside the Orange County Bar Association, Ms. McCoy holds still other positions of influence within the legal community. In 2001, she was honored by being nominated by the local federal judges to serve as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, a position that she has now held for two years and that affords her the opportunity to attend conferences with attorneys and judges from throughout the Ninth Circuit. She is also on the Board of Governors of the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. A past president of the Federal Bar Association, Orange County Chapter, she served as a director of that organization from 1995 through 2000.
After 20 years in large firms- 17 in the Newport Beach office of Stradling Yocca, Ms. McCoy recently opened her own practice, also in Newport Beach. By considerably lowering her hourly fee, Ms. McCoy has increased the range of cases that she can economically pursue. The move has also afforded the flexibility for Ms. McCoy to pursue her charitable, civic, and bar leadership interests (see Civic Activities), as well as flying airplanes, a hobby and part-time vocation (see Personal Profile).
Ms. McCoy received her Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas, in 1983, where she graduated Order of the Coif, or top 10%. At S.M.U., Ms. McCoy was an Editor of the Law Review and participated in the Jessup Moot Court Team and Mock Trial competitions. Her undergraduate degree is from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
