Ms. McCoy subscribes to the philosophy that attorneys, as relatively privileged members of society, owe a debt to the community. As such, she has involved herself in a variety of charitable and civic activities. For over five years, she volunteered her services at Human Options, an Orange County Shelter for Battered Women and their children, where she not only provided legal services, but also did telephone counseling of victims of domestic violence. She also served for many years as an Attorney-Coach of the Edison High School Mock Trial Team as part of the Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial Program.
Currently, Ms. McCoy volunteers as a pilot with
Liga International, The Flying Doctors of Mercy, an organization that provides free medical, dental, and surgical services in remote, impoverished areas of rural Mexico. One weekend a month, Ms. McCoy flies her twin-engine Beechcraft Baron, loaded with doctors, nurses, translators, and medical supplies, to the State of Sinaloa, Mexico, about 500 miles south of the U.S. Border. There The Flying Doctors operate three clinics in the towns of El Fuerte, El Carrizo and San Blas, where they treat over 3,000 patients on a given weekend.
Ms. McCoy began her charitable flying with the Flying Samaritans, an organization that provides similar charitable services in remote regions of Baja, California. Since 2001, Ms. McCoy has served as President of the Flying Doctors of Mercy and has also provided pro bono legal services, in addition to serving as a volunteer pilot.
